Following up on that last sentence, the Canadian National Post's Peter Foster explores the links between socialism, authoritarianism, and the global warming movement:

Yes, it has long been a truism that the House is more partisan and less inclined to centrist views than the Senate. The bigger the electoral territory, the harder it is to get elected with views outside the mainstream.

You ever notice that House Democrats are always more pro-bureaucracy, pro-tax, pro-mandate than Senate Democrats? My theory is that members of the House are often younger and less experienced than senators, and therefore much more partisan and idealistic.

Robert Tracinski underscores the point that it's not about GOP conservatives vs. moderates - it's about the core issue of the Republican party, big government vs. small government:

Update: Scozzafava has endorsed the Democrat candidate in the race, Bill Owens. Check out her glowing remarks about the person she was running against just a few days ago:

http://watertowndailytimes.com/article/20091101/NEWS09/911019992

OK, I get that she's ticked off at Hoffman, but this serves to illustrate that there are two different definitions out there of the phrase "moderate Republican". For most of us, a "moderate Republican" is someone who emphasizes fiscal discipline and low taxes as opposed to social conservativism. For the liberal media -and obviously for Scozzafava - a "moderate Republican" is a Democrat.

Thanks for referring me to the Noonan column. I've had the same thought a lot lately: "Do they really think they can just say this stuff and think people don't pay attention?" On any given day, sure, the majority of people have bigger fish to fry than listen to the latest emanations from Barney Frank or Nancy Pelosi. But they say such ridiculous things, with such regularity, and with no attempt at justification, that over time the effect is to destroy one's own credibility.

People forget that one of the premier accomplishments of Ronald Reagan and his fellow travelers was that they were willing to look the liberals in Washington in the face, laugh at them, and say, "That's just not true." No one had said that to them in 30 years, because everyone was playing by the same rules. Well, these same folks have had six years where their endless berating of George *#@&$@#*(!! Bush shielded their own views from any meaningful criticism by the media. But they've become no more sensible, and their arguments no less laughable.

The reason it took the Republican Revolution twelve years to collapse was that their ideas were right, but their representatives were flawed, and became increasingly so. The Democrats' revolution may fail in less than six years because their ideas are wrong, and their representatives are no better. Once the Obama halo is removed, there is no there there, as Ms. Noonan would say.

Jumping on the bandwagon, the London Times decided to finally talk to climate scientists who are ticked off about all the gross distortions of their findings by the global warming hysteria industry. Keep in mind, these are scientists who do believe in global warming, but are simply against lying to the public in order to frighten them into doing "the right thing":

Of course, the Times and other publications knew about all this years ago. Why didn't they report it at the time?

Robert Robb of The Arizona Republic argues convincingly that the Dems aren't true socialists, just idiots: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/10/30/democrats_miscalculate_health_care_politics_98947.html

I agree with Robb that Democratic leaders are either unable to understand or refusing to consider the obvious logical reasons he provides why their plan will be a disaster. Unfortunately for all of us, facts are stubborn things. By sheer effort of will, you can make yourself believe that a donkey is a flying unicorn, but if you actually try to fly off a cliff with it, what you end up with is two dead jackasses.

Great article. But just when does the fish discover it is wet. Only when it is out of the water and gasping.

Understanding the desire to distinguish oneself as essentially political because the goods of this world, even the intellectual joys of understanding never give total satisfaction or repose. He said “Theory itself is a sort of activity fraught with restiveness, and as such not surely superior to action." Alexis De Tocqueville
